How we handle analytics
The NestBoard team · 2026-09-02
We used to have a post here saying we did not use third-party analytics on the app. That was true when it was written and it is not true now, so here is the accurate version.
What we run
Two vendors, both named on our subprocessor list. PostHog does product analytics and browser error monitoring: which features get used, where people get stuck, what is throwing errors. HeyCatch measures how people find NestBoard and which setup milestones a new household reaches.
Neither receives your household content. No calendar entries, chore names, lists, notes, messages, or member names. To them you are an internal account id, never your email. No ad networks, no Meta or Pinterest pixels (we ran both once and removed them), and we do not sell your data.
Why PostHog
We vetted them on security before we sent them anything. The practical reason is speed: when something breaks we want to see it that day, because most people do not email to tell you. They just stop using the thing that did not work.
In the week to September 1, PostHog counted 886 dead clicks on our home page from 59 signed-out mobile visitors. Hundreds of taps that did nothing, and not one complaint. The same week a review of Robin conversations turned up a household whose Android keyboard was dropping the last word of every message before it sent, so Robin kept asking them to finish the sentence. That fix shipped the next day.
Session replay, and where it stops
Since September 1 we record a sample of visits to our public marketing pages, because a dead-click count tells us people are tapping something and not which something. Typing is masked and so is every piece of text, so a recording shows layout and where a finger landed, not what anything said.
It never runs inside NestBoard. Not the web app, not the Android, iPhone, or iPad apps. It runs only while you are signed out, and if you sign in partway through it stops and does not start again. A replay of the signed-in app would be a recording of a family calendar, and that is not a trade we will make.
What we do not do
No advertising trackers. No cross-site tracking cookies. We do not sell or share your data, and your household content is not used to train models. In the UK, the EEA, and Switzerland none of it runs until you say yes, and you can change that under Settings, then Privacy & Data.
The full detail is in our privacy policy.
